Transfer of Credits
This section covers all aspects of the Transfer of Credits procedure, which includes the application process, academic rules and regulations, as well as the Transfer of Credits process.
Applying to LAU as a Transfer Student
Please see the transfer student application page on the LAU website for all the details with respect to transfer student applications and deadlines.
For more information on the relevant rules and regulations, please see the Academic Rules and Procedures in the Academic Catalogue (General Academic Rules → D. Transfer of Credit).
The Post-Application Process
Once the student applies to LAU, the Admissions Office initiates a Transfer of Credits form. The applicant receives an automated e-mail stating that a Transfer of Credits form has been submitted on their behalf.
The student is responsible for providing an official transcript from the other university, as well as detailed course descriptions for the courses that the student wishes to transfer. Some courses may require additional information about course content, such as syllabi.
Only courses that have been completed and have a grade of at least 10% higher than the university’s passing grade can be considered for transfer evaluation.
Please note that the relevant department chairperson at LAU evaluates each submitted course and provides an LAU equivalent course and related number of credits if applicable.
For example: the chairperson of the English and Creative Arts department evaluates English language courses, the chairperson of the Computer Science and Mathematics department evaluates computer science courses, etc.
It is worth noting that some courses may be deemed as having no equivalent LAU course. Accordingly, the student must retake these courses at LAU. The courses that were deemed non-equivalent may be considered as free electives at LAU if applicable.
Once all department chairs have provided their feedback and the form has been finalized, the student will receive an automated e-mail informing them that the Transfer of Credits form has been completed and advising him/her to check the LAU portal for the transferred credits (if any).
General guidelines:
- Course Equivalency: The content covered by the course should align with the LAU syllabus and learning outcomes. The material taught at the other university must be similar to the material in the courses offered at LAU.
- Credit Conversion: The number of credits earned in the course should be equivalent to the credit system used at LAU. Transferred courses will follow LAU’s credit system.
- For students transferring from universities that follow the ECTS credit system, the ECTS credits are converted to LAU credits. The general conversion rule is as follows: LAU credits = ECTS credits × 0.6
- The internal transfer of credit policies may differ by academic program. For example, engineering, medical, and business programs may have more demanding credit transfer requirements, especially when it comes to core courses.
