Freshman Equivalency

Upon completion of the freshman program at LAU, students (regardless of nationality) must apply to receive a document from the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) attesting that the freshman requirements have been completed.

Students become eligible to apply for this equivalency upon completion of 30 freshman credits. At that point, a Freshman “hold” is placed on the student’s record. This hold will prevent the student from registering for any courses at LAU until the freshman equivalency process is completed.

The steps of the process are as follows:

  1. The student provides LAU with the required documentation:
  2. The Registrar’s Office (through its MEHE formalities representative) submits the complete equivalency request to MEHE.
  3. MEHE provides a receipt confirming that the request was submitted. This receipt is also emailed to the LAU student’s email address. It contains the date on which the equivalency document will be ready for pick-up at MEHE.
  4. The student picks up the equivalency document from MEHE and sends a copy to the Registration Unit at the Registrar’s Office.
  5. Once the document is received, the freshman “hold” is removed from the student’s record.

Students can pick up their equivalencies in person or through a close relative (subject to MEHE’s discretion).

Please note that MEHE might alter rules and regulations without prior warning. Accordingly, LAU cannot be held responsible for sudden changes in the Freshman Equivalency process.
